Looking for an Internship? We’ve Got You Covered! Internships are a valuable way to gain hands-on experience. They are most commonly pursued by sophomores through seniors during the summer semester—though they can be completed at any time. While students are encouraged to seek out opportunities that align with their interests, we occasionally share internships that come our way via LRESfrontdesk@montana.edu. Since these are not posted publicly, staying connected with your advisor or instructors is crucial for learning about local and national openings. Your first step? Reach out to us! We’re here to help guide you. From there, we may connect you with our Internship Coordinator, Dr. Hartshorn, or Dr. Dougher, for more tailored support in your search. |

Get Involved in Undergraduate Research Students interested in undergraduate research in a Microbiology & Cell Biology (MCB) lab should contact the Principal Investigator (PI) of a lab that aligns with their interests, ideally identifying two to three options. After confirming a placement with a PI, students must submit a Word document that includes a research abstract, a grading rubric, and the number of credits (1 credit = 3 lab hours/week). Once approved, a DocuSign form will be initiated for signatures, and the Registrar’s Office will complete the registration. |

Whether you're looking to gain lab experience, explore career paths, or earn academic credit, your professors are a great starting point. |

Pre-Vet |
|
Real-World Experience for Future Vets Microbiology students on the Pre-Veterinary track have access to a variety of internship opportunities, including BIOM 475R, which is typically available starting in the junior year. These internships offer hands-on experience in veterinary and related healthcare settings, enabling students to explore career paths, develop professional skills, and apply classroom knowledge in real-world environments. Many internships offer academic credit and can enhance veterinary school applications. Students are encouraged to connect with their advisor early to learn about available opportunities and plan accordingly. |
