Advising Information

Pre-veterinary advising is available to any current MSU and MSU alumni. Pre-veterinary advising provides guidance to students seeking admission to professional veterinary and vet technician programs. Advisors work to assist with program selection, course selection, application and interview preparation, and internship and experience guidance. Students are encouraged to meet an advisor at least once a semester. Pre-veterinary advising is currently offered by Dr. Jamie Arndt in Linfield 105.

Programs

Students can major in any degree program but must complete all necessary veterinary school pre-requisites prior to gaining admission to professional veterinary school. Pre-requisites are based in science and mathematics as well as communication and writing. Some majors are more streamlined than others to incorporate the veterinary pre-requisites alongside completion of a bachelor's degree. Pre-veterinary advisors do not endorse any single degree program, but many students choose one of the following options as they contain many relevant courses.

The pre-veterinary medicine curriculum is an introductory program for students who are interested in veterinary medicine pathways but are undecided about what academic major they wish to declare. This is not a four-year program, but rather an exploratory pathway that sets students up to complete veterinary pre-requisites while they explore academic programming in their first and second year at Montana State University.

Students who choose to pursue an academic major not listed above are encouraged to add a pre-veterinary certificate to their chosen degree. This certificate allows advisors and students to keep track of common veterinary pre-requisites so they can complete these alongside their chosen degree.
